Instead of asking you to buy something you really don't need, check out the community classifieds. Sell what you don't need anymore and pledge a percentage to the PTA.  You can get rid of the bike your child outgrew, or maybe even a week at your timeshare.  There is no obligation, and no fees of any kind.  The PTA will earn 100% of the money you choose to donate.
